EPFC North Fall 2021 Percolator Artists Residency Welcomes mim

Percolator invites emerging arts collectives to consider community connection as a crucial component of their practice. mim is a multi-disciplinary artist collective working on the unceded, unsurrendered shared territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) nations. Our projects explore ways of collectivizing creative practices. Current members are Daniela Rodríguez Chevalier and Michelle Martin. Come on down to the farm as Wendel Vistan presents a new eco-processed super 8 film created during her time as the very first breathing room artist in residence. breathing room is a new artist residency program from EPFC North and IRIS Film Collective that reimagines the artist residency as a fluid space for collaboration, experimentation, relaxation, and community connection. Wendel explored analog film technologies in telling a story of Mim’s Farm, a special place that “holds a space for conversations about the local histories of the area surrounding the Big Bend [of South Burnaby] and the Chinese migrants who farm on the land.” Mim’s Farm is located at 6137 10th Ave, Burnaby. The location is accessible by transit: get off the 22nd stop on the Expo Line and can ride the 100 bus from there or walk/bike 10-15 mins.

As summer slides into autumn, we look to the leaves on the trees around us at Moberly Fieldhouse us for inspiration as they gracefully change with the seasons… Come on by for a relaxed afternoon of phytograms, printmaking, direct animation and warm conversation. Free event! All Welcome!

We’re celebrating great Canadian dogs – past, present and future, real and imagined – with an afternoon “dog draw”. Bring your dog, draw a dog: your own or someone else’s or even an imaginary one! Free event! Everyone welcome, including canine friends who play well with others. Free event! All welcome!

breathing room reimagines the artist residency as a fluid space for collaboration, experimentation, relaxation and community connection

We are delighted to announce our September 2021 breathing room artist in residence: Wendel Vistan 

Wendel Vistan is a Filipino-Canadian immigrant, student, and artist who resides on unceded Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh territories. She explores notions of narrative, landscape, home and displacement through film photography, painting, poetry and video. She has participated in youth art programs at Contemporary Art Gallery and Unit/Pitt. She is currently studying Sustainable Agriculture at Kwantlen Polytechnic University.

Facilitated by Iris Film Collective and EPFC North, breathing room artists are provided with some filmmaking materials and equipment, technical and creative support, and access to work/exhibition space at Moberly and/or Burrard View Fieldhouse. The residency also includes optional opportunities for artists to engage with the local community via workshops, talks, screenings and other public activities. breathing room artists are invited to share their creative discoveries at a free public in-person and/or online event on the last Thursday of their residency.
